Meet The Founder
A Mission With a Vision
For every
mission work there is a great vision behind. The man behind the great vision is
Evgt. Dr. T.S. Koshy, saved and baptized in 1969 while working in a secular
field. In the same year the Lord called him for full time service. Then to
prepare himself joined a seminary at Chennai, South India in 1971. One evening
in 1972, he was out in the street, distributing gospel portions and tracts his
eyes fell upon the wayside garbage where street boys were sharing the crumbs
thrown out from a marriage feast along with stray dogs and cattle. This pathetic
sight moved his heart to do something for such children. Standing there by
closing his eyes and prayed, took a decision before the Lord to take care of the
orphans, the waifs and the unwanted in the society.
Being born in a good Christian family, God allowed him to pass through hard
experiences in life such as poverty, hardships and even starvation, to prepare
him for a great ministry ahead. He had to pray 14 long years to reveal the plan
of God in opening up an orphanage. In 1986 by sheltering a street boy along with
his own children the work is started. After few weeks’ three orphans from a
family joined. Then he had to find out another house to shelter them. But there
was no support or funds from any source to hire a house. By trusting Lords
faithfulness a house was hired by paying (Rs.400/- $8) out of the little
(Rs.900/- $20) he had for his family needs. With prayer he placed the little
amount before the Lord, asking to bless it as He did with five bread and two
fishes. So Daya Vihar Orphanage, the faith work, took shape and was inaugurated
in 1986 October 1 3 for the glory of God without seeing support of any kind.
There was no money to pay the preceding months rent. It is his policy not to ask
money to anybody and believed that God is able to provide everything in time as
promised in Phili-4/19. At this time a brother who heard about this faith
ministry of Daya Vihar Orphanage, offered to pay the rent as long as the work
runs in a rented building.
After three years the house owner informed to vacate the house as he is in need
of it and a date was given. But we had neither a place to go nor any money to
buy a house as our own. By trusting in the Lords promise in Joshua-1/3 he
claimed a nearby land, by going there every night, which was put for sale. The
Lord honored his faith by giving the entire land (over an acre) and at the given
date the boys were shifted to our own place.
Today Daya Vihar is a fast growing institution with 33 boys at Thiruvalla.
Several boys who have completed studies at Daya Vihar are settled in different
places. Now two branches are started in the nearby state, Tamil Nadu.. There
is
a custom of brutally killing the newborn female children at birth in several
communities.
So 1999, a girl’s orphanage is started in one of this remote village and now
housed 52 girls. A free tailoring institute is also running for the unemployed
and illiterate village ladies. In 2002 October, another orphanage is started
in
a town called Andipatty, Tamil Nadu. Infanticide and child labor is still going
on there. They sell children, boys and girls, to other states as slaves. Now
we
are sheltering four children.
As we get funds in we are planning to pick up street boys and provide them food
shelter and train them some technical trade. Daya Vihar is a faith ministry and
we have no regular income or support from any source. Our major supporters are
our friends and well-wishers. Daya Vihar is a Regd. Charitable Trust and each
gift we receive is honored with proper receipt and annual audit report also is
published every year.
Friends, it is my great desire to bring life and hope to this unwanted children
and help them to have a bright future. So let us work together to achieve this
great goal. Your financial assistance is very important to save the life of this
lovelichildren, for a better tomorrow. Please pray for us.
Yours in the service of the lost
