Daya
Vihar Girls Orphanage
In 1999, there was news in Malayala
Manorama about the infanticide in different villages in Tamil Nadu.
One of my friends who visit the villages to preach Christ told me
a heart-breaking story. One day he along with his friends while
visiting a village they saw pigs are eating the dead body of a
child in the gutter. in several villages in Tamil Nadu they kill
female child at birth. It is not because they don’t love girls but
due to the heavy expenses they have to bear till the marriage of
the child. So they kill their child with a heavy heart. Not only
that some people think that female child is accurse to the
society. They use different methods to kill child. They dip the
child upside down in the water, cover the nose and mouth with wet
clothes, put paddy in their mouth and fill the mouth with a kind
of poisonous fruit etc.

Girls
Orphanage in the early days |
Girls orphanage in October 2003 |

This is a group picture taken in 2005 of Daya Vihar Girls Orphanage along with staff and members and the old age home.
By reading this story we have decided to visit some these villages
to make an on the spot study about this barbarous act. So Mr.
Samuel T Sam and me have visited 33 villages and heard a lot of
story about the cruel act. After six months prayer we have decided
to start an orphanage in one of these villages, called Kudipatty
Vilakku, to save the life some children. So we have purchased a
cattle shed, which was fallen down, and we use to sty in the same
whenever we have visited the Village. God has blessed the work
after ten months we could make a semi permanent building with tin
sheet as the roof. After 4 years God has blessed the work in
different ways. Today we are taking care of 26 girls and 4 new
village churches. Not only that 7 dedicated people are taking care
of the children. A free tailoring school also is running for the
village girls who are mostly illiterate, jobless and poor. We need
around Rs 35000/-(US$ 750-) per month for various needs of the
Institution.
The Govt: has failed to prevent infanticide. But we are trying to
save the lives of the newborn. Our facilities are much limited. We
don’t have regular support from any source. But some brethren who
really love the Lord stand with us by prayer and support. Many
believers think that preaching is the only gospel work and not
other services. So often they ignore their cry of this children.
Some others think it is their fate and let them suffer or die. But
we have great responsibility to bring these children to the fold
of Christ. So let us work together to achieve the great goal. Your
prayerful cooperation is very much appreciated. Please visit our
web site for more details.

Daya
Vihar Tailoring Institute, Usilampatty, Tamil Nadu

There are hundreds of young ladies illiterate and jobless dwell in
villages. Due to water scarcity they are unable to cultivate the
land. Hunger and poverty has compelled many of them to turn as
prostitutes and liquor smugglers. Aiming to such ladies Daya Vihar
has started a free tailoring Institute in the Girls Orphanage
campus. We serve them free lunch also. Some of these girls walk
5-8 miles to and fro to come to the Institute. We need more sewing
machines and a separate building for the Institute. We request u
to pray and contribute for this project.

A hut in the
girls orphanage
|
There are nearly
145 villages in Tamil Nadu, in India, where they kill female children at birth.
They believe that birth of a female child is a curse to the family.
Not only that,
grown up girls are sent out for prostitution also. After visiting some of these
villages personally, we have started a girls orphanage in one of the interior
villages. Now we have 10 baby girls. |
